Sherman 17 pdr gun (Firefly)

The Sherman 17 pdr gun (Firefly)also known as Sherman Firefly was a medium tank used by the british between 1944 and 1945.

The vehicle was manned by a crew of 5 and was 2.71 metres wide, 6.25 metres long, 3 metres high and weighed 32.32 tonnes.

Powered by a 430hp petrol engine the Sherman 17 pdr gun (Firefly) was capable of a road speed of 24mph and a cross country speed of 17mph. The 160 gallon fuel capacity gave the Sherman 17 pdr gun (Firefly) a road range of 100 miles

Based on the medium tank chassis, the vehicle was armed with 3 light machine guns, a Ordnance Q.F. 17pdr with a muzzle velocity of 950m/sec which was capable of penetrating 124mm of armour at 800metres
