Char B1-Bis

France

 

The Char B1-Bis was a heavy tank , 745 of which were used by the french between 1937 and 1945.

The vehicle was manned by a crew of 4 and was 2.52 metres wide, 6.44 metres long, 2.82 metres high and weighed 32 tonnes.

Powered by a 180hp petrol engine the Char B1-Bis was capable of a road speed of 17mph and a cross country speed of 10mph. The Char B1-Bis had a road range of 112 miles

Based on the heavy tank chassis, the vehicle was armed with 2 light machine guns, a C.L. de 47 antichar SA-L mle1937 L/53 with a muzzle velocity of 855m/sec which was capable of penetrating 61mm of armour at 800metres and a 75 mm SA M1935 L/17.1 with a muzzle velocity of 300m/sec which was capable of penetrating 31mm of armour at 800metres
