The Char B1 was a heavy tank , 75 of which were used by the french between 1935 and 1945.
The vehicle was manned by a crew of 4 and was 2.51 metres wide, 6.44 metres long, 2.83 metres high and weighed 30 tonnes.
Powered by a 180hp petrol engine the Char B1 was capable of a road speed of 17mph and a cross country speed of 10mph. The Char B1 had a road range of 112 miles
Based on the heavy tank chassis, the vehicle was armed with 2 light machine guns, a 37 mm SA M1918 L/21 with a muzzle velocity of 388m/sec which was capable of penetrating 13mm of armour at 800metres and a 75 mm SA M1935 L/17.1 with a muzzle velocity of 300m/sec which was capable of penetrating 31mm of armour at 800metres |
